Summary

Ensures the accurate and timely customs clearance of import and export shipments in compliance with Romanian and EU customs legislation. The role focuses on operational execution, documentation accuracy, and coordination with customs and other Romanian authorities (ANSVSA for phyto issuance, Chamber of Commerce for Origin certificates, etc), brokers, and internal stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and submit customs declarations and import/export documentation in line with Romanian Customs Authority and EU requirements.
  • Ensure correct tariff classification (HS codes), customs valuation, and country‑of‑origin determination.
  • Coordinate daily customs clearance activities with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers to ensure timely release of goods.
  • Calculate and verify customs duties, VAT, and other taxes, ensuring accurate payment and reconciliation.
  • Prepare and maintain supporting documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, transport documents, certificates, Intrastat where applicable).
  • Track shipments in internal or ERP systems and provide clearance status updates to internal teams.
  • Communicate with customs authorities to resolve clearance holds, inspections, or documentation discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized customs records and archives in line with statutory retention requirements
  • Provide coaching to other team members

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to interpret and apply EU customs regulations and Romanian national rules to daily transactions.
  • Effective coordination with internal departments (logistics, finance, procurement) and external parties.
  • Use of customs/ERP systems and standard office tools to manage clearance data and documentation.
  • Holding a license for conducting customs clearance services with access to governmental systems for customs clearance

Additional Qualifications

  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • In-depth understanding of the customs clearance regulations and processes
  • General knowledge of a diverse list of agricultural commodities, products and their governing contracts
  • In-depth understanding and use of compliance tools and regulations
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Foreign Trade, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or related field
  • Fluent English

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
