Summary

CHS, Inc. is looking for a technically skilled, hands‑on electrical professional who is passionate about developing people and supporting a high‑performance maintenance culture for our largest grain export terminal facility in Myrtle Grove, LA.

This role will guide and support technicians, oversee day‑to‑day electrical operations, and perform troubleshooting on industrial systems such as PLCs, VFDs, sensors, and motor controls within a grain‑terminal environment. This role also ensures safety compliance, coordinates electrical activities, and collaborates with engineering and contractors on system upgrades and improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily work of the electrical and instrumentation (E&I) team.
  • Schedule, assign, and follow up on maintenance tasks, repairs, and troubleshooting.
  • Support and perform hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting of PLCs (primarily Allen-Bradley), HMIs, motor controls, VFDs, sensors, and grain handling systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards (NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA) and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Perform inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical systems, instrumentation, and control panels.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for wiring diagrams, PLC programs, calibration records, and maintenance logs.
  • Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and CHS engineering support on projects and upgrades.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and assist with corrective actions.
  • Monitor spare parts inventory and recommend reorder levels for critical E&I components.
  • Assist with the onboarding and training of new technicians and electricians.
  • Provide after-hours emergency support as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of experience in Production, Operations and/or Maintenance and/or Electrical Maintenance
  • Prior leadership experience with progressively advancing level of leadership responsibilities

Additional Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to support, guide, or lead work efforts within a team setting.
  • General working knowledge of industrial electrical systems and equipment.
  • Exposure to automation, controls, or PLC-based systems; ability to assist with troubleshooting and system support.
  • Familiarity with basic industrial instrumentation or control devices (such as sensors, switches, or measurement systems).
  • Ability to read and work from electrical drawings, schematics, manuals, or technical documentation.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new systems, technologies, and processes.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Instrumentation, or related field.
  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician in Louisiana (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience in grain terminals, ports, or bulk material handling environments.
  • Working knowledge of CMMS systems (e.g., SAP, MVP Plant).
  • Experience leading small teams or serving as lead technician on projects.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including grain elevators, control rooms, catwalks, and confined spaces.
  • Ability to climb ladders, lift up to 30 lbs, and perform physically demanding tasks while using proper PPE.
  • Must be able to obtain TWIC card
  • Available for on-call support and occasional travel (up to 30%).

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
