Summary
CHS, Inc. is hiring a Senior EH&S Specialist for the EMEA Region, based in Bucharest or Constanta, Romania, to coordinate the implementation of Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) programs across the EMEA region, monitor compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, an environmental protection regulations and CHS global safety standards. This role is expected to travel approximately once per week with additional travel to other locations based on business needs.

Responsibilities
- Develops and implemenst the annual EH&S plan across EMEA region, conduct regular audits of company assets, offices and facilities to identify compliance gaps, assess risks, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Leads and promote environmental, health, and safety programs and procedures across EMEA, fostering a strong safety culture and ensuring adherence to company policies and standards.
- Ensures compliance with the CHS Global Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Policy, CHS Global Safety Standards, internal procedures, and all applicable legal requirements.
- Oversees EH&S reporting and documentation processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant submission of all required records and reports.
- Monitors updates to legal and other applicable requirements related to environmental protection and occupational health and safety.
- Participates in the review of new projects to identify environmental aspects and potential hazards arising from their implementation.
- Provides support to managers and EH&S coordinators in investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses, and in implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Verifies the implementation and continuous improvement of EH&S.
- Ensures all required permits, licenses, and regulatory approvals are obtained, maintained, and kept current in accordance with applicable legal and company requirements. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of EH&S programs by tracking progress toward objectives, assessing corrective and preventive actions, and ensuring the successful implementation of initiatives within the region.
- Analyzes compliance evaluation results against applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Reports to management on the status, development, and effectiveness of EH&S.
- Performs any other duties assigned by the direct manager in support of ongoing business activities.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Agriculture/Agronomy, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
- 4+ years of experience in a similar role
- Fluency in Romanian and English
- Completion of an authorized Occupational Health and Safety course of at least 80 hours.
- Completion of a postgraduate Occupational Health and Safety program for risk assessment of at least 180 hours, or a master’s degree or PhD in Occupational Health and Safety, where applicable.
- Required training must be completed through an authorized professional training provider in accordance with Romanian legislation.
Additional Qualifications
Environmental, health and safety knowledge
- Knowledge of environmental compliance areas, including waste management, water and wastewater compliance, air emissions, chemical storage and handling, spill prevention and response, environmental permitting, reporting, and inspections.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- ISO 45001 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification preferred.
- ISO 14001 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification preferred.
- Fire safety or emergency response training preferred; training must be completed through an authorized professional training provider in accordance with Romanian legislation.
