Summary
The Benefits Specialist is responsible for the administration, compliance, and communication of the company’s benefits programs regarding plan options, policy features, enrollment and other requirements. Ensures company compliance with federal, state and local laws.
Working under moderate supervision where authority to take action is limited to established policy, this role assists with the administration of various benefit programs including but not limited to group health, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, dental, vision, life insurance, voluntary benefits, 401(k) and retirement. Receives detailed instructions on most work. Works on assignments that are routine in nature. May require some analysis and individual judgment. Acquires and applies job skills and learns company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks.
This is a hybrid role in the office 2 days a week at our Inver Grove Heights Corporate Office.
Responsibilities
Verify the calculation of periodic premium and administrative statements for all group insurance policies, processes vendor invoices for payment, and prepare spreadsheets for accounting.
Answer routine employee questions. Escalate or coordinate as necessary with the applicable subject matter expert.
Handles routine mail and mailings for department. Accurately completes benefit questionnaires/forms, administers Qualified Medical Child Support Orders including enrollment in benefits, and verifies information on forms submitted by employees.
Facilitates the premium payment process for employees on leave of absence. Coordinates eligibility for retiree medical and retiree life enrollment. Calculate and communicates COBRA subsidy for layoff, military, employee deaths.
FSA & COBRA error reports, Adoption Assistance administration, misc filing, and other work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- 1-2 years related experience in administering benefit programs
- High School diploma or GED
Additional Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of human resources and benefits, mathematical skills, analytical skills, attention to detail, customer service skills including verbal communication. Ability to recognize challenges and solve from established options. Investigate and recommend process improvements.
- Previous Benefits support experience
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, experience with Payroll, HRIS and benefits databases
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Must demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
- Ability to work independently in functional area
- Must be highly organized and able to manage time well in order to meet deadlines
