Summary

CHS is seeking a strategic and results-oriented Director of Transportation to lead transportation operations across multiple transportation modes, including truck, rail, barge, container and vessel. Reporting to the Vice President, Transportation, this leader will partner across business units and enterprise functions to execute transportation strategies that support operational excellence, customer service, safety, compliance and business performance.

The Director of Transportation will lead a team of managers and transportation professionals in a complex operating environment and play a key role in advancing enterprise transportation capabilities while ensuring reliable, cost-effective and customer-focused transportation solutions

Responsibilities

  • Lead transportation operations across multiple transportation modes to support enterprise business objectives.
  • Develop and execute transportation strategies aligned with company goals and customer needs
  • Provide leadership and direction to regional managers, maintenance leaders, logistics supervisors, logistics specialists and system analysts.
  • Partner cross-functionally with internal stakeholders representing multiple product lines and business functions.
  • Drive operational excellence through performance management, continuous improvement and execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Lead transportation sourcing and contract negotiations to optimize service, cost and performance.
  • Champion customer experience initiatives that strengthen service reliability and business relationships
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety and operational requirements while promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Monitor transportation market conditions and drive actions that improve operational and financial performance.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 7+ years of experience in Supply Chain and Procurement and/or Transportation and Logistics
  • Progressive leadership experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, fleet operations or related disciplines.

  • Experience leading leaders and managing large, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Demonstrated success leading operations in complex, multi-site environments.
  • Strong business acumen, strategic planning and financial management skills.
  • Experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders and driving enterprise initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation operations, safety programs and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience managing multiple transportation modes, including truck, rail, barge, container and vessel operations.
  • Experience in agriculture, energy, commodities or large-scale logistics networks.
  • Demonstrated success leading organizational transformation, operational excellence or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, Transportation, Engineering or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
