Summary

The Expert Fuels Account Manager is a strategic and customer-centric role that combines refined fuels sales expertise with deep cooperative account management. This position is responsible for managing and growing relationships with cooperative accounts, driving sales of refined fuels, and ensuring operational excellence across the customer lifecycle. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills, with a deep understanding of the refined fuels market and cooperative business models.

Responsibilities

Account Management & Customer Success
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned refined fuels accounts, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and long-term relationship success.
  • Conduct regular check-ins, site visits, and virtual meetings to assess customer needs, resolve issues, and identify growth opportunities.
  • Lead onboarding and training sessions for new and existing cooperative personnel on refined fuels programs, safety, and operational best practices.
  • Track and report on key performance metrics such as satisfaction scores, delivery efficiency, and revenue growth.
Sales & Business Development
  • Sell wholesale refined fuels (gasoline, diesel, blended products) to cooperatives and independent dealers, leveraging market intelligence and customer insights.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations, proposals, and contracts tailored to customer goals.
  • Identify upselling and cross-selling opportunities within existing accounts, including tank upgrades, monitoring equipment, and risk management solutions.
  • Collaborate with pricing and supply teams to optimize margins and ensure competitive positioning.
Strategic Planning & Market Analysis
  • Develop and execute annual and quarterly account plans in collaboration with business development and logistics teams.
  • Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and supply-demand dynamics to inform sales strategies and customer recommendations.
  • Forecast terminal supply requirements and contribute to procurement planning.
Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with logistics, operations, billing, and administrative teams to ensure seamless service delivery and contract execution.
  • Partner with internal sales teams across CHS divisions to align on customer strategies and enterprise growth opportunities.
  • Provide feedback and insights to internal teams to enhance product offerings and service models.
Operational Excellence
  • Ensure timely resolution of customer issues, including billing, pricing, and delivery concerns.
  • Support implementation of new accounts, including site surveys, tank profiling, and equipment installation.
  • Conduct post-audit analyses to evaluate profitability and operational success of new business.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 7+ years of experience in sales and/or business development and account management.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Agriculture, or related field preferred
  • Strong knowledge of refined fuels products, logistics, and risk management
  • Proven communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; SAP or JDE experience preferred
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% and work extended hours during peak periods
  • Skilled in using sales tools to meet goals and objectives
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Effective in delivering market insights and trends to customers

 

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
