Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity in the Transportation and Logistics business unit. We are seeking a Fleet Asset Manager who will be responsible for the design, development, and execution of a fleet asset strategy for CHS Transportation and Logistics fleet primarily comprised of OTR trucks, tractors, and trailers. In this role, you will develop fleet vehicle standards to minimize cost while meeting user requirements. This role is responsible for translating standards and requirements to design specifications and requests for proposal. This role will develop and leverage strong OEM relationships to maximize contract value, grants, incentives, and warranties. This role will help optimize asset utilization through collaboration with stakeholders and strategic planning to include purchasing, leasing, pooling, permanent reassignment, temporary redeployment, and short-term renting of assets. Determine optimal life-cycle replacement plan through total-cost-of-ownership analysis and remarketing planning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic management of fleet assets to ensure alignment with operational needs, business objectives, and evolving industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain fleet specifications and standards that balance cost efficiency, performance, and user requirements, while remaining adaptable to new technologies and business priorities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimize asset deployment through leasing, pooling, reassignment, and short-term rentals. Oversee asset remarketing and disposal programs to ensure efficient lifecycle transitions.
  • Leverage data analytics and reporting tools to monitor fleet performance, identify trends, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including USDOT filings, insurance, licensing, permitting, and other fleet-related obligations.
  • Manage fleet budgets and capital forecasts in coordination with Finance, Treasury, and Accounting teams, ensuring financial alignment with strategic goals.
  • Establish lifecycle replacement plans using total-cost-of-ownership modeling and analytics. Coordinate maintenance, refurbishment, and warranty programs to extend asset life and minimize downtime.
  • Drive cost-effective asset procurement and utilization strategies by aligning acquisition decisions with lifecycle cost analysis and operational efficiency goals. Collaborate with suppliers to build detailed fleet asset design specifications based on CHS standards.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with OEMs and Internal CHS Strategic Sourcing to negotiate contracts and manage supplier relationships across the asset lifecycle. Reserve production slots, develop OEM schedules, and partner with sourcing to establish supplier relationship management programs.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive fleet master data, ensuring timely updates for capital expenditures, modifications, and operational changes.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on emerging vehicle technologies, including alternative drivetrains, automation, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Support strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance fleet performance and operational efficiency. Perform other duties as assigned to support the evolving needs of the Transportation and Logistics business unit.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School Diploma
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting, finance, supply chain, or business planning and consulting with experience in fleet vehicle acquisition and disposal

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or automotive engineering, business or supply chain management or another related field
  • Experience working with or designing specifications for heavy duty vehicles and with 3-years’ experience in fleet vehicle acquisition and disposal
  • Mechanical experience beneficial
  • Analytical and problem solving
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Strong computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office and Fleet Management Information Systems highly desirable

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
