Summary
CHS has an exciting opportunity within our Global Grain and Processing business unit located in Hallock, MN. We are seeking an Experienced Process Engineer to provide technical support, drive continuous improvement efforts and provide project management support to ensure a safe, reliable and efficient plant outcome.
The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, organized, detail-oriented, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. They should also be able to work independently and collaboratively with cross functional teams to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
Responsibilities
Process Engineering:
- Plan assigned design and/or development projects by preparing engineering documents, calculations, drawings, material lists, construction schedules, operating instructions, and integrating plant controls and automation. Emphasize achieving optimum processing efficiency, reducing energy and material costs, and adhering to safety requirements.
- Ensure that necessary research and proper evaluation secure the most cost-effective repairs/improvements and result in maximum efficiency.
Project Management:
- Projects will typically be less than $1 million in value.
- Provide project management support and supervision to construction crews, organizing each step of the construction process.
- Initiate purchase requisitions and select equipment for projects and maintenance.
- Coordinate communication involving projects with supervisors, engineering teams, facility department managers, and outside consulting agencies to maintain understanding among appropriate parties.
- Champion safety during initial design and construction phases.
- Report all safety/environmental violations as required to site EHS.
- Follow company quality systems and implement food and feed safety measures in all projects.
- Collaborate with the engineering group as needed for larger projects.
Plant Support:
- Aid in process troubleshooting and conducting root cause analysis of process and equipment challenges. Lead mitigation and corrective actions
- Provide technical support for plant utilities systems, including compressed air, steam, cooling, electrical, and water/wastewater support systems.
- Participate in plant maintenance shutdown activities as assigned.
- Maintain accurate documentation on repairs/improvements and equipment to ensure proper capitalization, depreciation, and maintenance schedules.
- Champion continuous improvement and Lean initiatives
- Develop and manage documentation on process and electrical equipment, process flow and piping and instrumentation diagrams
Engineering Team:
- Participate in developing best practices within areas of subject matter expertise.
- Attend all team, safety, and company meetings.
- Focus on training and personal development.
Other Duties:
- Perform other reasonably assigned duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Agricultural, Civil, or Biosystems Engineering.
- 2+ years of experience in plant, process, or project engineering in a related industry such as biofuels or chemical manufacturing.
Additional Qualifications
- Knowledge and working experience in oilseed processing and refining operations
- Demonstrated knowledge of plant construction and effective management of small to medium-sized projects.
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude in equipment troubleshooting
- Knowledge of unit operations around oilseed processing
- PMP Training or Certification.
- Lean training or certification.
Physical Requirements
- Work may be required on weekends and holidays as assigned.
- Occasional travel may be required.

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
