Summary

CHS Inc. has an exciting opportunity within the Pipelines and Terminals (P&T) group in Laurel, MT for an Environmental Specialist Intern for the summer of 2026.  The successful applicant will work under the direction of an experienced environmental, health, and safety mentor and assist in the environmental efforts related to the operation of our bulk refined product and asphalt terminals, as well as our crude oil and refined products pipeline systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with remediation project management and oversight.
  • Assist with waste management program compliance, including proper waste profiling, storage, manifesting, shipping, and disposal.
  • Assist with air quality compliance efforts, including tank inspections, emission testing, emissions inventories/reporting.
  • Review existing Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans and update as needed.
  • Review existing Facility Response Plans (FRPs) and update as needed.
  • Assist with the coordination and participate in spill prevention and emergency response training with field employees.
  • Assist with the development of a CHS P&T drone program.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Completion of your Sophomore or Junior year in an environmental science, engineering, or other environmental related field in an accredited program with a cumulative GPA of 2.6 or better.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.

Additional Qualifications

  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Previous internship or work experience in the oil and gas industry.

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
