Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity at our Pipeline and Terminal (P&T) facilities centered out of Laurel, MT. We are looking for an Operations Superintendent to help ensure safe and efficient maintenance of P&T operations. You must be a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong commitment to safety and compliance with the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are necessary. 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct P&T Operations personnel, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating employee performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Develop a vision for a safe and compliant operations culture and help each employee understand their role in achieving that vision.
  • Insure safe and compliant execution of operational vison.
    • Joint ownership of O&M Compliance
    • Ownership of operations related MOC and Enablon action items
    • Ownership of, continue to develop and provide direction on the Control Room Management Program
    • Coordinate maintenance and repair work with the Maintenance Superintendent
    • Direct company operations so that the operational needs are met, and regulatory compliance is assured.
  • Audit all compliance documents submitted by staff.
  • Represent operations during internal and external audits.
  • Operational Excellence SME
  • Work closely with engineering staff and provide input on the scheduling and completion of major capital and expense projects.
  • Assist engineering disciplines as needed; and evaluate project impacts on existing systems.
  • Have a sound understand and knowledge of all aspects of pipeline measurements.
  • Become familiar with all aspects of FERC regulated oil movements and contribute to compliance.
  • Understand and provide direction on scheduling. Train, oversee and backup schedulers.
  • Provide support and direction of the Public Awareness and Damage Preventions Programs and will serve on committees supporting these plans and others.
  • Review and approve all operational controllable expenses. Monitor and control operational costs.
  • Handle contacts with landowners, customers, local civic representatives, and regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and operating costs control.
  • Assist with developing and modifying operating procedures.
  • Travel as needed.
  • Ability to be on call during non-business hours.
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment, including respirators.
  • Promote a strong safety culture for all employees, contractors, and customers. Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance to correct.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in pipeline operations, maintenance, engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Previous supervisory and/or team leadership experience

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • 10 plus years of pipeline operations/maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge and application of PHMSA and OSHA regulations to pipeline operations and maintenance practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook PowerPoint, and database data entry
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written to various levels within the organization, vendors, contractors, and community correspondents
  • Basic knowledge of pipeline scheduling, metering, and hydraulics.
  • Detailed knowledge of damage prevention and control room management.
  • Working knowledge of FERC requirements for common carrier pipelines.
  • Experience with Maximo or another CMMS

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
