Summary
CHS has an exciting opportunity at our Oil Refinery facility in Laurel, Montana. We are looking for a Process Engineer Intern to provide technical support assistance to refinery Process Engineers for a variety of refinery units in order to achieve optimal performance while meeting company safety, environment, and economic guidelines. You must be detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Responsibilities
- Assist with process monitoring, data collection, and routine analysis of refinery operations.
- Develop and maintain basic material balances, yields, performance calculations, and operating data summaries.
- Support improvement projects involving safety, reliability, environmental performance, energy efficiency, product yield, and operability.
- Participate in field data gathering, equipment inspections, and process troubleshooting under engineering supervision.
- Assist with maintaining process safety information, including PFDs, P&IDs, calculations, procedures, and management of change documentation.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project summaries; complete an assigned improvement project and present recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- Completion of sophomore year leading to a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.6 or higher.
Additional Qualifications
- Coursework in material and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, process calculations, or chemical process fundamentals.
- Exposure to engineering software or data tools such as Aspen HYSYS, PIPE-FLO, Python, or similar applications.
- Previous internship, co-op, research, laboratory, manufacturing, agricultural processing, or industrial experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including respirators.
CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
