Summary
We in CHS Italy have an exciting opportunity for a Grain Commercial Merchant to join our growing team in Padova. This role is key to supporting our commercial operations and consolidating the growth achieved in recent years. The successful candidate will manage relationships with clients and suppliers, identify new business opportunities, and contribute to the strategic development of our grain trading activities. This position reports directly to the Country Commercial Manager and will be based in our Padova office on a hybrid basis, with regular travel required.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and grow the existing customer base while identifying new commercial opportunities.
- Provide reliable market information to the CHS EMEA trading team.
- Generate positive P&L results through strategic grain trading activities.
- Collaborate closely with the logistics and execution departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Develop and execute strategies for grain positioning, buying, and selling.
- Conduct internal market analysis and adapt strategies accordingly.
- Build alliances with customers, suppliers, and stevedores.
- Evaluate customer creditworthiness and manage risk limits.
- Support the finance team with market-to-market (M2M) data and explanations.
- Stay informed on industry trends, policies, and practices affecting grain marketing in Italy.
- Seek ways to optimize the supply chain and reduce financial costs.
- Ensure compliance with Italian grain contract standards.
- Manage strategic accounts and contribute to CHS’s commercial operating model locally.
- Coordinate internally to ensure customer satisfaction and delivery excellence.
- Oversee contracts, positions, and internal reporting (SnD).
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- Business Diploma or University Degree in Business, Economics, or related fields.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in grain commodities or similar commercial roles.
- Strong knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel.
- Experience with JD Edwards Oracle or SAP systems.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- At least 2 years of experience in Supply Chain, Procurement, and/or Commodities.
- Fluent in both English and Italian.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Passion for the grain industry and eagerness to grow professionally.
