Summary

CHS Herman in Watertown, SD is looking for a Truck Driver to join our team! This individual would be responsible for hauling dry and liquid fertilizer to our local customers and also doing maintenance in the off season. This is a M-F position with weekends and longer hours expected during busy seasons.  A Class A CDL is required with the ability to hold hazmat and tanker endorsements. Responsibilities

  • Operate a semi‑tractor and trailer and or straight truck to deliver products to customers in the area in a safe and timely manner. 
  • Load and unload product as required, including connecting and disconnecting trailers for product transfer, and follow safety protocols for handling products
  • Prepare and complete delivery documentation and daily load/unload reports; record accurate electronic logs.
  • Provide professional customer service during pickups and deliveries and maintain positive customer interactions
  • Drive in accordance with DOT regulations, company policies, and compliance requirements
  • Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, and report maintenance, safety, or equipment concerns promptly. Perform interior maintenance and upkeep as needed.
  • Report accidents, incidents, near misses, and equipment issues; follow required
  • Provide informal guidance and support to fellow drivers as needed regarding routes, equipment operation, and safety practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager. Additional maintenance, cleaning, and operational tasks as needed

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Valid Class A or Class B CDL (as required for the equipment/route)
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of verifiable CDL driving experience
  • Must meet age requirement
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and compliance, and complete required documentation accurately

Additional Qualifications

  • Demonstrate the ability to operate independently in a high‑skill driving role, including managing complex routes or delivery requirements
  • Demonstrated safe-driving performance and ability to make sound safety decisions in changing weather and road conditions
  • Strong customer service skills and a history of positive customer feedback
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely climb in and out of truck cabs and trailers
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions; travel and time away from home as required by the schedule

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
